AUT fitout by Dentec | Dental fitout specialists

Back in December 2019, Dentec completed a fitout job for AUT (Auckland University of Technology) upgrading their OHT training facilities. Fast-forward to 2021, a training facility three times the size was needed and naturally Dentec were called in once more to take on the mighty job.

Dentec managed the full design and build working directly with AUT Estates and other key stakeholders to complete this project. Despite its fair share of challenges, the end result saw three existing classrooms transformed into one large 30 chair simulator classroom optimised for up and coming young OHT students to learn and practice in.

When AUT's existing training facility was found to be encroached with asbestos, there was no choice but to tear it down and start over again, which turned this fitout extension into a much more substantial project.

A fine balancing act had to be upheld to coordinate demolishing the existing building while readying the new one so equipment could be transferred safely. Work also needed to be synchronised with the many other projects happening at AUT during this time.

To top it all off, the new fitout also had to work in and around existing classrooms and be completed when students weren't on campus or busy studying.

Dentec wouldn't be the experts they are if they didn't know just how to handle every challenge thrown their way and the AUT fitout was no exception!

With many projects on the go at AUT during this time, the Dentec team worked harmoniously in and around other activities happening on campus. The majority of the work was undertaken between semesters when student presence was minimal and the final touches were completed on schedule, ready for students starting semester 1, 2021.

To solve the issue of existing classrooms complicating the typical approach to things, Dentec ingeniously ran services above-floor, utilising the tops of the cabinetry to do so, since under the floor was not an option.

Dentec supplied and installed a vast amount of the equipment needed for this project including 30x DCI delivery units, 30x doctors stools, and 30x operating lights.
